Talking about Illness: Why It Is Difficult and Why It Is Valuable
Internationally known Canadian author and professor of sociology Dr Arthur Frank will discuss how and why we talk about—or avoid talking about—chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, obesity, and genetic diseases. Dr Frank’s own life-changing experiences surviving a heart attack and cancer caused him to reflect on the stories that people create to explain and communicate their trauma, doubt, and pain.
The event will conclude with a “Hope Stories” talk by the Qatar Cancer Society.
This event is a collaboration between Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar and Qatar Cancer Society.
