The Arab World: A Long View on Renewal, Violence, and Democratic Change

Monday 17 April 2017, 04.00PM – 05.30PM Lecture Hall 144, Texas A&M University at Qata, Education City, Doha, Qatar

This is a public lecture given by Dr Shafeeq N. Ghabra.

Understanding the Arab world needs a long view. Nothing in the region is unusual when compared with the modern history of other nations: war, dictatorship, extremism, stability next to instability.

In 2011, the social political contract was challenged. Without a new contract and rearrangement in the social political structures in the Arab world, stability will suffer endlessly.
