The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), a member of College of Islamic Studies (CIS) in Hamad Bin Khalifa University, cordially invites you to its upcoming public lecture entitled: ““What is Maslaha (Benefit/Interest) and Who Decides?””

This event will be held on November 19th, 2017 from 7 to 9pm in the Education City Student Center cinema.

During the lecture, Maslaha (benefit/interest) will be discussed through religio-ethical perspectives, and the following questions will be addressed by the panelists:

How can we define what “best interest” is, whether for the public or for an individual? Does Maslaha mean different things to different people who invoke it? Which methodologies do they employ and what roles do scripture, human intellect and moral values play in the reasoning process? How does Islamic discourse on this topic relate to parallel discussions in other traditions and philosophies?
